Kundli matching

The classical 36-point match for two people — every koota with what it looks at, the Nadi and Bhakoot doshas, and a Manglik check for both. Birth date and place are enough for most of it.

1Groom's birth details

Date of birth

As exact as you can — from a birth certificate if possible. A few minutes can change the rising sign.

Advanced settings (optional — the defaults suit most people)

Vedic astrology measures the zodiac from the fixed stars. Traditions place the starting point slightly differently (under 2°). Keep Lahiri unless you follow KP or Raman.

How the sky is divided into the 12 houses — the life areas like career, family and money.

Exact location

Only needed if your town isn't in the list. Leave the timezone blank to work it out from the coordinates (historical daylight saving is handled).

Questions about kundli matching

How is the kundli matching score worked out?

The Ashtakoota (eight-part) system compares the two Moons — their signs and birth stars (nakshatras). Each of the eight kootas carries a fixed number of points, from Varna (1) to Nadi (8), adding up to 36. The tool shows every koota, both people's values and the points it gives.

What is a good guna milan score?

By the common convention, 18 of 36 is the minimum, 25 and above is good and 33 and above excellent. These bands are a convention, not a rule from the classical texts, and a score describes traditional factors — it doesn't decide a relationship.

Do we need exact birth times?

For most of the score, the birth date and place are enough: the Moon stays in a nakshatra for about a day. If the Moon changed nakshatra or sign on a birth date, the tool says so — then the time changes the result. The Manglik check from the rising sign always needs a birth time.

What is Manglik (Kuja dosha)?

Mars in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house, counted from the rising sign and from the Moon. It covers 6 of the 12 houses, so about half of all charts are Manglik by this rule. Traditionally, two Manglik charts are read as balancing each other; the many cancellation rules vary by tradition and aren't computed here.

What are Nadi dosha and Bhakoot dosha?

Nadi dosha: both Moons fall in the same Nadi, giving 0 of 8 points. Bhakoot dosha: the Moon signs are 2/12, 5/9 or 6/8 apart, giving 0 of 7. The tool shows them, and the most widely cited exceptions when they apply — without changing the score.

Why is my score different on another calculator?

Three kootas — Varna, Vashya and Gana — use point tables that differ between printed sources, so totals can differ by a few points. Ayana uses the established reference software's tables for those three and says so on each row. We also checked the other five against that software on every pair of birth stars and found two errors in it (an inverted Tara and one wrong Bhakoot cell) — Ayana follows the classical rule there.
